There is nothing better than meeting up at the dock an hour
before sunset and heading out on the waters of Charlotte Harbor or Boca
Grande for the night bite. The heat of the day is subsiding and the
waterways are getting quiet. The day boaters have head in, and we are
just beginning. As we get started, I always try to hit a hole or two,
for that last chance trout or Redfish. I call this the transition from
day feed to night feed. The sun is going down, and the birds are
settling in on the many mangrove islands. A beautiful sight to behold.
Night fishing trips offer an entirely new dimension to your fishing
repertoire. The experienced Florida fishermen know that predator species
of fish, prefer to feed after dark. Snook and Tarpon are so smart that
they have learned that all the fisherman go home after dark... except
you. So its time to eat!
When fishing near the shoreline at high tide after dark, you can't seem
em, but you know they are out there. You can hear them flopping around.
There is really nothing quite as exciting as having a Snook hit a live
shrimp late in the evening or especially after the sun has gone down.
When he hits, you really don't know if you have a Snook, a Tarpon, or
even a Jack... all you know is that your line is screaming out, and
something is pulling hard. The excitement is immense. If you are lucky
enough to have access to a hot spot where you can do some night
fishing, you really ought to give it a try. Otherwise, give me a call
and I'll take you to one of my favorite spots where you can experience
Night fishing for Snook, this unique aspect of Southwest Florida
fishing.
Night fishing is a great time to use top water plugs when fishing around
lighted docks and bridges and along the moonlit shorelines. After about
25 minutes, your eyes will adjust and everything starts coming
together. The lighted piling and docks attract micro-organisms that the
bait fish feed on, as well as bugs and shrimp and crabs.both Charlotte
Harbor and Boca Grande over abundance of prime snook fishing opportunity
Of course fishing at night presents additional challenges. Your
equipment must be perfect, your boat clean, and it really helps to go
out with an expert guide who knows what he is doing.
