Welcome to my how to fish charlotte harbor page:
Im captain Erick Joseph im a full time fishing guide serving the waters of charlotte harbor ive designed this page to offer the fisherman or just some one that wants to learn the proper way to fish how to be successful and learn the importance of respecting other fisherman and our estuary. Some of the commits I get from other guides are “ I cant believe you are teaching everyone how to fish our waters “ and commits from fellow clients are you afraid that if every one becomes a successful fisherman ? you will be out of work? And the answer is No no and no! I learned along time ago that the more people no the more they care and we the fisherman are the best stewardess of our fishery than all else combined.
I will teach you to use and pick a bait that you can gain confidence in. You will learn to work an area in a slow and quiet manner. Not to be in a rush. Learning a new area takes time and patience. I have been fishing over 30 years and i am always learning and trying new techniques for different situations. The reality is that the fish are also learning all the time. For sure, they have learned to stay away from the big noisy boats!
When we approach a area to fish in Charlotte Harbor, I will teach you how to come off plane in the shallows without damaging your boat and most of all our estuary! Show you how to idle down, and either use an electric motor or push pole. I will teach you how to observer the shore line to find structure or a small cut that may indicate a tidal flow or a hole. These areas can be most productive, and knowing how to spot them can spell the difference between a pleasant day fishing and a great day. A good ultraviolet sunglasses are essential if you want to learn how to read the water. One recommended brand is flying fisherman with amber lens so you can see the fish wile looking at the shore. I will also teach you how to "see" the flat you are on, and how to spot the drop offs.
I will teach you the importance of fishing ethics for example giving a fellow fisherman space, slowing down, and respecting others.” Fishing is supposed to be relaxing not annoying.”
We will cover fishing a narrow channel with out obstructing it .
To be consistently productive, you need to be able to see where does the grass start? How far out the oyster bars are are? Do you see life in the grass such as pin fish, white bait, or shrimp. We will always be looking for deep cuts so we can navigate in and out safely without hurting your boat or our estuary. When you fish with Captain Erick, you are going to learn to love this estuary in every sense, and you will want to protect it.
Charlotte harbor is known for its various species of fish including the Tarpon, Redfish, Snook and Spotted Sea Trout. While we certainly want to catch fish, our goal will be learning their habits, why they are where they are, what they are eating, how they respond to tide changes and weather conditions. These skills will serve you well on any body of water.
